MSK Podiatry Biomechanics (also known as Sports Podiatry)

MSK Podiatric Biomechanics - in a nutshell it’s a ground up view applying mechanical and biological principles to your movements.

At our Norwich based Podiatry Biomechanics clinic we bring over 28 years of medical experience to examine the movements of the muscles and joints of your feet, legs, hips, and back to join the dots of their interaction in walking, running, football, or any weight bearing activity.

“We can use this biomechanical diagnostic technique to discover the cause of your pain.” Says Ian Sadler our clinical director. “This can be particularly useful if you have had scans, done your physio’ correctly and your pain is still there”

In your diagnostic appointment we will listen to your story, hear and understand your pain and how it is affecting your life, we will then identify the pain point and thoroughly examine the interaction of all the joints from the tips of your toes to your lower back. Then we will sit down together to discuss the findings and agree a plan to resolve the problem.

The outcome of your appointment may be several layers deep:

Around 60% of our patients are prescribed an orthotic insole. Of these approximately 40% will need them forever while the remainder could only need them for a few months.

Foot mobilisation may also be recommended, this treatment is aimed at lubricating and improving the flexibility of your feet. This is often the solution for arthritic and older joints or high arched feet.

You could be given a rehabilitation program of specific strengthening and stretch exercises to help rebuild resistance in your muscles, ligaments, and tendons, rebuilding your bodies strong biomechanics.

Other treatments may include acupuncture or near infrared light treatment (Photobiomodulation) and taping your joints to support the function and reduce your pain.

Often we will liaise with or make recommendations to Physiotherapists, Osteopathic or Chiropractic therapies, Massage or other treatments. Radiographic examination such as X-Ray, MRI or Ultrasound can also be ordered to confirm your diagnosis.
